Elias Theodorou, the mixed martial artist who
competed in the UFC Middleweight division, died on September 11, MMA Fighting confirmed.
He was 34 years old and was suffering from Stage 4 liver cancer. Theodorou was
the winner of The Ultimate Fighter Nations: Canada vs Australia.

Who is Elias Theodorou? 

Elias Theodorou was born on May 31, 1988 in Mississauga, Ontario in Canada. Theodorou is of Greek descent. Much of schooling happened at the Meadwvale Secondary School. Theodorou did his bachelors degree in creative advertising from Humber College. 

It was when he was in the first year of college, Theodorou decided to pursue mixed martial arts. He later went on to feature in The Ultimate Fighter Nations: Canada vs Australia, representing Canada in middleweight. In the quarterfinals, he defeated Zein Saliba and in the semifinals he defeated Tyler Manawaroa.

Elias also had a unique allowance. He was the first professional athlete to be allowed to consume medical marijuana is sport. 

Theodorou has won several tournaments in course of his mixed martial arts career, including Extreme Cage Combat (ECC Middleweight Championship), the North American Allied Fight Series and he was also the Ultimate Fighter Nations Middleweight Tournament Winner. 

Elias Theodorou has acted in three films: The Listener, The Ultimate Fighter Nations, The Amazing Race Canada. Theodorou was also involved in a film called Last Hit where he plays an MMA fighter who retires and then turns to e-sports.

Theodorou was a proud advocate for medical marijuana use. He received the Therapeutic Use Exception (TUE) from the British Columbia Athletic Commission in January 2020. Theodorou used cannabis to treat the pain and discomfiture he suffered from bilateral neuropathy, a nerve condition caused due to an accident that broke his hand in two places.
