Former Baltimore Ravens RB Alex Collins died on Monday at the age of 28, as confirmed by the team.

Baltimore Ravens in a statement said, “With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of Alex Collins. Always quick to greet everyone with a smile, he was a genuinely kind person who carried a special joy and passion wherever he went. May Alex always be remembered for the light and love he brought to so many people in his life.”

Collins had a five-season NFL career and is remembered for his outstanding work with the Arkansas Razorbacks during his college years. He spent three seasons in his professional career with the Seattle Seahawks, who took him in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, and another two with the Ravens.

Alex Collins, an American football running back, had a diverse career in the sport. He most recently played in the United States Football League (USFL) for the Memphis Showboats. In the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks picked Collins with the 171st overall pick. In his professional career, he spent two seasons each in 2017 and 2018 with the Baltimore Ravens before making a comeback to Seattle in 2020. His stay at the University of Arkansas was a defining moment in his collegiate football career.

Collins chose to leave the NFL after being out of the game for multiple injuries and accidents. On March 1, 2019, the Ravens released Collins from their roster after his arrest subsequent to a car accident earlier that day.

Later, on October 3, 2019, he entered a guilty plea to the allegations of having a pistol in a vehicle and more than 10 grams of marijuana. As a result, he was sentenced to 18 months of unsupervised probation. On November 1, 2019, the NFL suspended him for three weeks for violating the league’s personal conduct code as a result of his actions. On November 19, 2019, Collins’ suspension was overturned, and he was put back into the lineup.
