The Dallas Cowboys made substantial offseason adjustments to their backfield, but at least one of those moves won’t be in place when the 2023 season kicks out. Ronald Jones, the team’s backup running back, will miss the team’s first two games due to a two-game ban for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs, the NFL announced on Monday. Jones will still be able to participate in preseason workouts and contests.

The New York Giants and the New York Jets are Dallas’ opponents in its opening two games of the year. Jones will be able to play against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3 if he stays with the team.
Jones presented his viewpoint on the matter on Tuesday. “I simply want to say that during the course of my career, I’ve been prescribed it. Nothing contained steroids. Nothing about it improved my game, according to Jones, who spoke to the Dallas Morning News. “I just want to make it clear that I’m not rigging the football game,”
The Cowboys signed Jones earlier this offseason. He is anticipated to be in the mix behind presumed starter Tony Pollard, who is suddenly catapulted into the starting lineup after primarily serving as Ezekiel Elliott’s backup for the past four years, along with Malik Davis and Deuce Vaughn.

Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy responded when asked why the team didn’t immediately bring Elliott back into the fold, “Well, because of the reps. Simply put, we’re not going to encounter a bump and then abandon the course. These young men should be seen, please. I want to watch them participate in games.
Jones played for the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2022 season, rushing 17 times for 70 yards and a score and collecting one pass for 22 yards. In spite of falling behind Leonard Fournette on the depth chart, Jones, a second-round choice of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2018, spent the first four years of his career in Tampa and went on to win a Super Bowl with the Bucs a few years ago.
