Paulo Dybala, the Argentine forward, is joining the Italian club AS Roma on a free transfer. This is a huge signing for Jose Mourinho’s side, considering Premier League clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal had also expressed interest in the 28-year-old.

However, Dybala agreed to move to the Serie A club because Mourinho played a key factor, calling the former Juventus player to explain his project.

Under Mourinho as the coach, Roma met Feyenoord in the first-ever Europa Conference League, which the Italian side won, and will now be part of the Europa League. The Portuguese manager has also expressed an interest in remaining at Roma and turning over a new leaf with the Italian side.

Adding Dybala to the front line will give Roma the firepower needed to secure a solid position in the Serie A table, and perhaps try for the Champions League next season.

The Argentine will be around in that case, having signed a three-year deal, which will see him at Roma till 2025. His salary could reach €6m net per year along with add-ons.

Next up, Dybala has to complete his medicals before the deal is done and the player is expected to release an official statement soon.

Nicknamed ‘La Joya’ or ‘The Jewel’, Dybala initially played for Instituto de Cordoba and then Palermo, before the move to Juventus. There, he became the club’s ninth all-time highest goalscorer.

Dybala’s move to Roma came after a few days of negotiations, and the Argentine piqued the interest of other Italian clubs like Napoli and Inter as well.

Roma’s next match is a friendly against Sporting, slated to take place at the Estádio Algarve in Portugal.

Dybala also debuted for the Argentine national team at the age of 21 and is expected to be a part of the squad in this year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar, as well.
