Franchise quarterback Joe Burrow gave the Cincinnati Bengals a serious scare during training camp. Near the end of the afternoon practice on Thursday, the 26-year-old franchise quarterback staggered on one leg and collapsed to the ground.

As trainers attended to the Pro Bowl quarterback and assisted him into the back of a cart, a few teammates gathered nearby. He grabbed his lower leg before being carried off the pitch due to a non-contact injury, ending his participation in the practice.

Early diagnostic results, according to accounts, point to a calf strain for Burrow. “Sometimes players feel a little sore after the first day,” Coach Zac Taylor said. “He was just scrambling,” Taylor added to reporters, via Fox 19 Now “This is football. Guys go down with an injury. That’s just part of football in training camp.”  Moreover, center Ted Karras said in the locker room, “I’m not the expert here, but my gut says Joe will be OK.”

Defensive end Sam Hubbard also spoke about the incident saying, “I’m not going to talk about another player’s injuries, but I know about calf strains all too well, and they are painful but aren’t the end of the world. They do linger a bit, but I think the training staff and Joe are going to do the right thing and take care of this early in camp and be ready to go.”
