The Minnesota Vikings signed running back Myles Gaskin to their practice squad on Saturday, after releasing him from the 53-man roster. As a result of this trade, receiver Lucky Jackson was released to make place for Gaskin.

Gaskin and outside linebacker Benton Whitley were also upgraded to the active roster for the team’s season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. The Vikings are expected to start Alexander Mattison as running back, with Gaskin and Chandler serving as backups.

Benton Whitley is a versatile outside linebacker who has spent time with the Rams since being picked in 2020. In 2022, he did not play for any team, however, he did spend the preseason with the Vikings before being waived and signed to the practice squad.

Whitley is now expected to make his Vikings debut on Sunday, as outside linebacker Marcus Davenport is doubtful due to an ankle ailment. If Davenport is unable to play, the Vikings’ 53-man roster will include Whitley, Danielle Hunter, D.J. Wonnum, Pat Jones II, and Andre Carter II at outside linebacker.

Myles Gaskin is a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for the Minnesota Vikings. He attended Washington University and was a two-time Pac-12 Conference All-Star.

The Miami Dolphins selected Gaskin in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He soon established himself as a starter for the Dolphins, and in 2020 he led the team in rushing yards with 961. He also caught 31 passes for 203 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Gaskin led the Dolphins in rushing again in 2021, with 734 yards. In addition, he had 37 receptions for 204 yards and four touchdowns. The Dolphins released Gaskin in March 2023. Later the following month, he signed with the Vikings. Gaskin is a dynamic running back who can both run and receive the ball. He is also an effective pass blocker. He’ll be competing for a starting spot with the Vikings.
