The European
Union (EU) is providing €1.65 million in humanitarian aid funding in response
to severe flooding that has affected South Asia, most notably Bangladesh, India
and Nepal.

The support comes on top of the €1.8 million announced earlier this
year to support families affected by a series of disasters, including Cyclone
Amphan that ravaged India and Bangladesh, bringing the total EU support to
victims of disasters in the region to €3.45 million, reported news agency ANI.

The Cyclone Amphan wreaked havoc in India and Bangladesh in May this
year leaving at least 128 dead, out of which 98 were from India.

West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee had announced a fund of Rs
6,250 crore to assist the affected people to build houses, provide assistance
for betel leaf plantations as well as construction and repair of tube wells.

The kin of each of those killed in the cyclone were assigned Rs
2.5  lakh each while those badly injured
and others with minor injuries were assigned Rs 50,000 and 25,000,
respectively.

Cyclone
Amphan was one of the worst calamities that ever hit West Bengal.
