Bollywood actor Aamir
Khan and his wife Kiran Rao on Saturday announced separation after 15 years of
blissful marriage. They have a son together, Azad Rao Khan. The couple released
a joint statement that they will continue to be co-parents to their son.

The couple released a joint statement to the media saying, “In these 15 beautiful years together we have shared a lifetime of experiences, joy, and laughter, and our relationship has only grown in trust, respect, and love. Now we would like to begin a new chapter in our lives – no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other.”  

While the news came as
a shock and broke many hearts, especially Aamir’s fans. One thing that we can
all agree upon a couple never ceased to entertain and awe us with their
beautiful chemistry.

When Aamir met Kiran
(2001)

This was the time when
Aamir was shooting for his blockbuster Oscar-nominated movie Lagaan. Kiran Rao,
who is now a filmmaker was one of the assistant directors of the movie. In a
recent interview, Amir revealed that the set of Lagaan is where he first met
his soon to be ex-wife Kiran, However, they were not in a relationship at the
time. “We were not even great friends then,” said Amir.

Aamir announced
separation from his first wife Reena Dutta (2002)

2002 was dreadful for
the Mr Perfectionist of Bollywood as he announced a divorce with his first wife
and childhood sweetheart Reena Dutta after 16 years of marriage. 

Aamir and Kiran
started dating each other (2004)

Kiran Rao in one of
her interviews said that Aamir and she started dating in 2004. They became good
friends on the sets of Lagaan. They came closer after Kiran extended tremendous
support to Aamir when he was going through his divorce proceedings. They lived
together for a year before getting married. 

In that moment of trauma,
her phone came and I talked to her for half an hour. When I put the phone down,
I said, ‘My God, I am so happy when I talk to her.’ It struck me in that
instant,” Aamir said in an interview.

Aamir and Kiran got
married (2005)

After a year-long period
of dating, Aamir Khan and Kiran tied the knot in 2005. In multiple instances
during their 15 years of marriage, Aamir called Kiran his best friend and that
she acted as his support system whenever the need arose.
