Vikasheel Insaan Party leader Mishri Lal Yadav won the 2020 Bihar assembly election from the Alinagar constituency, defeating Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) contestant Binod Mishra by a margin of 3,101 votes. 

RJD leader Abdul Bari Siddiqui won the seat in 2015, defeating then-BJP leader Mishri Lal Yadav. The seat, one of Bihar’s 243 assembly constituencies, is part of the Darbhanga Lok Sabha Constituency.
