Cardi B, a rapper, known for hits such as WAP, Bodak Yellow and I Like It, was subjected to a “malicious campaign” of false accusations by Latasha Kebe, popularly known online as Tasha K.

The host of YouTube channel UnWineWithTashaK, which has 1 million subscribers, was found to have published “slanderous and defamatory statements” about Cardi B.

A jury found Kebe was liable for defamation, causing emotional distress, and asked her to pay a total of £927,437.50 in damages. Cardi B has not commented on winning her case, but she did post a picture showing her late grandmother and captioned, “My queen, thank you for hearing my prayers… only you know those nights that I cried to you feeling hopeless and tired, even when it seems like I have the world in my hands.”

At one point during her “campaign to damage and destroy,” Kebe falsely claimed that Cardi B had worked as a prostitute for a living. Lawyers for the star said Kebe used her online platform to “publish and spread malicious rumors, slanderous assertions, and false information about celebrities … for her personal financial gain”.

She began making “degrading and harassing statements” about Cardi B, as a result, she experienced “embarrassment, humiliation, mental anguish, and emotional distress”, her lawyers successfully argued.

She is also known for her aggressive flow and candid lyrics. She was born and raised in New York City, and became an Internet celebrity by achieving popularity on Vine and Instagram. She appeared as a regular cast member on the VH1 reality television series Love & Hip Hop: New York from 2015 to 2017. The series depicted the pursuit of her musical aspirations. In 2017, she released her second mixtape, Gangsta Bitch Music, Vol. 2, and partnered with MAC Cosmetics. She received five nominations at the 61st Grammy Awards, including for Album of the Year, Best Rap Album, and Record of the Year (“I Like It”).
