Singer Taylor Swift on Monday criticised British musician Damon Albarn after he said in an interview that she “doesn’t write her own songs.”

“I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this. I write ALL of my own songs. Your hot take is completely false and SO damaging. You don’t have to like my songs but it’s really fucked up to try and discredit my writing. WOW,” the 32-year-old tweeted.

The 53-year-old, the lead singer of Blur and co-founder of the group Gorillaz, had used Swift’s name as an example of modern artists who hide behind “sound and attitude”.

When an interviewer recently pointed out that Swift writes or co-writes all of her songs, Albarn responded, “That doesn’t count. I know what co-writing is. Co-writing is very different to writing. I’m not hating on anybody, I’m just saying there’s a big difference between a songwriter and a songwriter who co-writes.”

He also compared Swift to Billie Eilish, whom he called “exceptional.”

Producer Jack Antonoff, who worked with Swift on several of her albums, also took to Twitter to support the ‘Folklore’ singer.

“I’ve never met damon albarn and he’s never been to my studio but apparently he knows more than the rest of us about all those songs taylor writes and brings in. herb,” he tweeted.

“[I]f you were there … cool … go off. if not … maybe …. shut the f—k up,” he added.

This is not the first time that Albarn has publicly feuded with a singer. In 2015, he called Adele “insecure” shortly before the release of her album ’25’.

Adele responded saying, “He said I was insecure, when I’m the least insecure person I know.”
