Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner are not separated but reportedly lived an entire summer apart from each other.

The 34-year-old Jonas Brothers member filed for divorce from his wife of 4 years, Turner on Tuesday. The filing did not come as a “surprise” to the people close to them as they spent “the whole summer apart,” a source told People Magazine “They were not separated but they’ve been living separate lives for months.”

Jonas had retained a divorce lawyer but he continues to wear his wedding band. The source said that the couple “haven’t gotten along in a while, but they’re hoping to resolve this all amicably.”

“As far as custody goes, this literally all just happened, so they’re figuring it out in real-time,” the source said. “They did have a prenup. As a family, they were based in Florida. The kids were with him the last few months, traveling with him with family while he’s been on tour. Sophie’s been working in the UK.”

The divorce filing claimed, “the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken.” Jonas and Turner have an ironclad prenup in place so dividing up assets should be easy.

The two are parents to two daughters who were born in 2020 and 2022. Jonas is seeking shared custody as he is the one who is primarily taking care of the kids at the present.

Last November, during an interview with Mr. Porter, Jonas opened up about why he and Turner kept much of their relationship private.

“I want to feel like an open book,” he told the publication. “But when we started dating, I realized that I didn’t have a ton of stuff that was just for me. And in the end, it makes me a better person to have something for myself.”

He also shared about life as a father, in an interview with People Magazine in August 2022, calling it an “adjustment period.”

“Just something that I’m learning as I go, I think I can now work a little bit harder to take time off. I’m still trying to figure it out,” he said at the time. “Some weeks are a little bit more challenging than others, but it makes it a lot easier when you enjoy your gig… I wake up every day just thrilled to be able to go make music or act and create different projects and have a beautiful family, so it feels like a dream come true.”
