The farmers’ protest against Centre’s newly-formed
farm laws entered day 9 on Friday. Four
rounds of talks between the Centre and the farmers’ union remained inconclusive. Nine
major roads connecting Delhi with other states have been completely closed.
While farmers are stuck on the Delhi border, women and youngsters in Punjab villages
have taken up a responsibility to send fresh food to the agitating farmers. Gurdwaras
and community kitchens in villages are running day and night to prepare food for those
braving cold night on the highways.

Women in villages are preparing ‘Maki ki roti, ‘Sarso ka Saag’,
ghee and ‘pinnis’ for the agitating farmers. Raw vegetables, including cabbage,
onion, carrot, tomato, are being delivered to the protest sites. Youngsters are
making sure that they deliver freshly-cooked meals to Singhu and Tikri border.

One of the village in Punjab’s Phagwara district, Jagatpura
Jattan, has prepared about one ton of ‘desi ghee pinnis’ for the farmers, which
will now be delivered to the protestors.

The villagers say that these ‘pinnis’ keep
you full for longer time and the farmers involved in the agitation should not worry
about their meals. The cost of these meals is being borne by the villagers.

The Centre and farmer unions will now meet on Saturday to end the deadlock.
