Tamil star Ajith Kumar, who is popularly known as ‘Thala’ Ajith, has requested his fans to stop calling him by the title. The actor said in a statement that he does not want any prefixes to his name and prefers to be called just Ajith, Ajith Kumar or just AK.
“I henceforth wish to be referred to as Ajith, Ajith Kumar or Just AK n not as “Thala” or any other prefix b4 my name. I sincerely wish you all to have a beautiful life filled with good health, happiness, success, peace of mind and contentment forever. Love, Ajith (sic),” he said in a statement that was shared by Ajith’s publicist, Suresh Chandra.

Ajith is known as ‘Thala’ while actor Vijay, who is said to be his closest rival in the Tamil industry, is popularly known as ‘Thalapathy’.
Ajith’s character in the 2001 Tamil film ‘Dheena’ was called Thala Dheenadhayalan and since then, his fans have continued to call him ‘Thala’.
The fans of both the actor engage in Twitter war on a regular basis, with abusive hashtags trending several times on the social media platform.

Ajith, who does not have any social media profiles, has previously reprimanded fans indulging in social media abuse.
In 2017, Ajith issued a statement in which he aplogosied to those who were targeted by people claiming to be his fans.
“Persons misusing our client’s name have also been trolling members of the film industry, journalists, critics and other individuals. While it is important to identify such miscreants and hold them accountable, our client unconditionally apologises for any hurt or harm caused,” he said in a statement which came through his lawyers.
