Brock Purdy, the San Francisco 49ers quarterback, suffered a blow on the elbow vs Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC title game on Sunday.

He was replaced by Josh Johnson after the 49ers backroom staff ruled his return to the NFL playoff game in Philadelphia to be unlikely.

Losing Purdy is a big blow to the 49ers as they have depended heavily on him since the injury to their first-choice QB Jimmy Garoppolo.

The rookie QB, who incidentally was Mr. Irrelevant in the 2022 NFL Draft, became the first rookie QB to throw for 200 yards in an NFL playoff game during the Wild Card clash against the Seattle Seahawks. He completed 18 of his 30 throws in the game, setting a postseason record for a rookie quarterback, gained 332 yards, and threw for four 49ers touchdowns.

The former Iowa State quarterback put up a similar show against Dallas Cowboys in 49ers’ divisional playoff game last Sunday. Thanks to the Purdy show, the 49ers got a decisive 19-27 win against the Cowboys, securing a place against the Eagles in the NFC title game. Personally, the game was one of his best as not a single one of his throws met with a turnover.
