Ella Irwin, Twitter’s head of trust and safety, told Reuters that she has resigned. The former executive joined the micro-blogging platform in June 2022. She took over as the head of the trust and safety team in November after Yoel Roth left.

Irwin oversaw content moderation. Twitter got acquired by Elon Musk in October. The Tesla founder earlier this month announced that he has hired former NBCUniversal advertising chief Linda Yaccarino as CEO.

Ella Irwin’s departure comes as Twitter is struggling to keep advertisers, as per Reuters.

Neither Irwin nor Musk has posted about her resignation on Twitter. There is no clarity on who will fill in.

“Elton Mouse has fired Twitter’s Head of Trust and Safety Ella Irwin for doing her job: Namely trying to block a transphobic film by Matt Walsh being made available on the platform. Thank you Ella for trying,” a Twitter user said.

Fortune.com reported that Irwin’s Slack account appears to be deactivated.

“Looks like the Twitter/Daily Wire debacle went all the way to the top. Head of Trust & Safety, Ella Irwin has just resigned. How many dominoes will fall?” another Twitter user added.

“Ella Irwin, who personally suspended for quote tweeting an account that I was calling out shouldn’t be on this platform, has resigned. She had DM’d me saying she would suspend me for quote tweets and retweets, a special rule just for my account. I am so happy you’re gone Ella! 😆” a third one was happy about Irwin’s resignation.

Musk has made huge staff cuts since taking over Twitter. The Independent reports that the company, with an original headcount of around 7,5000 employees, has been brought down to below 2,000.
