Actor Sean Penn attends Jan 6 Day 5 hearing 'looking to seek justice'
- Sean Penn was seen attending the fifth hearing of the Jan 6 committee
- The actor is known for his social work, and was filming in Ukraine during Russia's invasion
- Speaking on Jan 6, Penn said people are 'looking to see justice'
As per NBC News, Penn was seated between D.C. Metro Officers Michael Fanone and Daniel Hodges, and told reporters he was there as "just another citizen".
When asked about what he thought of the hearings, the 61-year-old replied, "We all saw what happened", adding, "now we're looking to see justice".
The hearings are taking place to examine the link then-president of the US, Donald Trump, might have had with the insurgency that took place at the Capitol on January 6, 2021. At the time, Trump had lost the election to Joe Biden but was convinced it had been stolen from him and the Republican's comments incensed many in the country, which the year-long fact-finding mission has set out to prove.

Thus far, there have been many testimonies from various parties, including those closest to Trump and within the administration, that highlighted how he planned to overthrow the election.
Penn's political and social stands aren't just limited to the US. The Oscar winner was earlier in Ukraine, where he'd gone to film a documentary on the separatist Donbas region when Russia invaded. He made it out though and recently put together the Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE) foundation's charity event for the war-torn country.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke at the event, urging all to fight for the nation that's been withstanding a Russian invasion since February 24.
"Mr Sean Penn, who has been personally in Kyiv and Ukraine since the first day of the war and has seen firsthand this evil, which is called Russian full-scale aggression", he said at the time, adding that the devastation in Ukraine wasn't a "blockbuster about the apocalypse" but rather, the country's reality.
Penn, otherwise, has been critical of the Trump administration - especially, the handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
