As the violence between Israel and Palestine rages, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Democratic Representative from New York, lashed out at the Biden administration and said the barrage of airstrikes and rocket attacks between the countries are happening with “the support of the United States.”

In a tweet, dated Saturday, Ocasio-Cortez wrote: “This is happening with the support of the United States. I don’t care how any spokesperson tries to spin this. The US vetoed the UN call for ceasefire.”

Last week, the United States, Israel’s strongest ally, isolated among the 15 members of the UN Security Council in closed-door discussions around issuing a statement calling for restraint on all sides in the Israel-Palestine conflict, twice used its veto power to block agreement on the statement, diplomats from three Security Council members told POLITICO.

Meanwhile, Ocasio Cortez directed a barrage of questions at the recently inaugurated administration, “If the Biden admin can’t stand up to an ally, who can it stand up to? How can they credibly claim to stand for human rights?”

In a follow-up tweet, Ocasio-Cortez went on to hint at Israel as an ‘apartheid state’ and said they cannot be considered as democracies. There’s a prevailing chain of thought which alleges the Israeli government of committing the crime of apartheid against the Palestinians.

The tweets from the progressive Representative come on the back of an Israeli airstrike destroying a high-rise building in Gaza that hosted international media organisations.

The 13-storey building housed the American news agency Associated Press and the Qatar-based Al Jazeera among other media houses. Israeli defence officials said the building also hosted offices of Hamas militants, AFP reported.
