Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and his wife Melinda Gates took on Twitter to announce that they will be divorcing each other after 27 years of marriage.

“After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage,” they wrote on their respective Twitter handles.

The couple jointly runs the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. They met in the 1980s when Melinda joined Microsoft. Bill Gates, 65, stepped down from the Microsoft board last year. Thy have three children – Rory John Gates, Jennifer Katharine Gates, Phoebe Adele Gates. 

The pair confirmed that they will continue to do all the social work via the foundation. They further asked for space and privacy.
