At least one person reportedly died following a shooting in Boone, a town in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, on Friday. The suspect has reportedly been detained and is cooperating with law enforcement investigators, Watauga Democrat reported.

According to local reports, the shooting took place just after 3:30 p.m. near the chain’s Highway 321 location on the 1060 block of Blowing Rock Road.

The responding officers found a male suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to Watauga Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival. The victim’s identity has not been released.

Meanwhile, the suspect was detained.

Police said the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident. The shooter was cooperating with law enforcement.

An investigation was ongoing and authorities confirmed there was no ongoing threat to the public.

Blowing Rock Road was closed for an hour on Friday evening while investigators with the Boone Police Department collected evidence from the scene.

“There has been a reported shooting near Bojangles on Highway 321. The public is not in immediate danger. Police are at the scene currently, and traffic will be heavy in that area for roughly an hour. We encourage the public to take alternate routes during this time,” the official Twitter page of the town tweeted.

Deputies from the Appalachian State University Police Department, Watauga County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina Highway Patrol, Watauga Medics, and Boone Fire assisted with the incident.
