101 Freeway at Hollywood Hills was shut down due to reports of gunfire. Officials with the LAPD were serving an eviction notice at an apartment in a housing complex when they heard gunshots. 

As a safety precaution, the California Highway Patrol had closed off both sides of a part of the 101 Freeway. Law enforcement officials later discovered that a man inside the house had killed himself. The apartment is located at 2300 block of Cahuenga Boulevard.

The incident occurred at around 9 AM in the morning, and police surrounded the complex as soon as the firing was heard. The individual is still said to be inside the apartment.

According to Travis Morrow, a Sheriff’s Seargent, as soon as the police officials knocked on the door, “they heard a single gunshot come from within the apartment.”

A Twitter post by Total Traffic LA says, “SB between Highland Ave and Gower St, stopped traffic back to Laurel Cyn Blvd”.

Social media has been abuzz with the traffic situation on 101 Freeway following the incident. One Twitter user expressed their anger at how “The freeway infrastructure of LA is susceptible to domestic violence due to proximity.” A window of the apartment where the gunman is in, has been reported to open towards the freeway. A Special Enforcement Bureau team of the sheriff’s office was sent to the area. The officials set up a perimeter around the building and advised other residents of the complex to take shelter in their homes.

It was later reported that the lockdown was lifted by 1 PM in the afternoon. 

In another case of shooting, a teenager in Kew Gardens of Queens, New York was injured outside a high school. The victim is said to be in critical condition.
