The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has released some preliminary details on a high-speed pursuit that resulted in a collision along Interstate 65 close to Montgomery on Thursday afternoon.

At 2:26 pm, according to ALEA Sgt. Jeremy Burkett, officers tried to conduct a traffic stop on a 2018 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck. When approached on I-65 south at milepost 185, the truck, which was later determined to have been stolen, resisted coming to a halt. In north Autauga County, that is about a mile south of the Pine Level exit.

According to Burkett, the driver sped away from law enforcement, causing troopers to start a pursuit. Burkett claimed that the suspect caused two traffic accidents while evading police, and then crashed and overturned near the 173-mile marker in Montgomery County. The accident scene was close to Northern Boulevard in Montgomery.

Around 2:38 p.m., several law enforcement personnel flocked to the scene of the truck crash. Although Burkett stated that ALEA was working to offer more information, the agency has not confirmed information regarding the suspect or any potential passengers.

First responders were on the scene of two wrecks on I-65, one of which was close to Prattville at the 178-mile marker and caused Cobbs Ford Road to close, according to Prattville Fire Deputy Chief Josh Bingham. The other was at milepost 173.

Bingham did remark that the injuries ranged from serious to critical, notwithstanding his inability to link the collisions to the chase scenario. On the other hand, despite being unable to authenticate facts on the crashes, the Prattville Police Department said they were a result of the issues ALEA troopers were facing in Montgomery.

Burkett said two lanes of I-65 southbound remain blocked, but one lane is open. He urged commuters to use caution when traveling in the area.
