Robert F Kennedy Jr announced his run for 2024 Presidential elections on Wednesday. Social media users are still chatting about his role in estranged wife Mary Richardson Kennedy’s suicide.

Mary Richardson Kennedy died after hanging herself at home in May 2012. She was 52 and known for her philanthropic and environmental work. The mother of four children – Conor Richardson Kennedy, Kyra LeMoyne Kennedy, William Finbar Kennedy, and Aidan Caohman Vieques Kennedy – she was faced drug and alcohol-related charges in years leading up to her death.

The Westchester county medical examiner’s office conducted an autopsy and declared that Kennedy died of asphyxiation due to hanging. While RFK has not been accused of any wrongdoing in connection with Mary’s death, many social media users believe that their divorce got the better of her.

“RFK Jr doesn’t stand a chance. Wasn’t he responsible for his wife’s suicide? A nasty man. New Hampshire says NO to RFK Jr,” a Twitter user said.

“RFK Jr’s second wife Mary committed suicide in their massive greened mansion where she was alone after he took away the kids when he left her after he’d driven her to alcoholism from all his philandering,” another one added.

Mary’s family had hired a Washington investigation firm and an ex- Manhattan homicide prosecutor to look into her death, The New York Post reported in 2012. However, nothing much came out after the investigation.

RFK Jr filed for divorce from Richardson in May 2010. In the same week, she was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. The 52-year-old reportedly struggled with alcoholism and substance abuse and a court ordered that full temporary custody of her children be granted to her estranged husband.

Kennedy told the police that a day before her death, Mary called him.  “She was sorry for everything,” he told the Bedford Police Department.

“She told me she needed me to take care of her.”
