The buzz around social media is that former President Donald Trump might choose Kari Lake, the Republican candidate for governor in Arizona, as his running mate for the 2024 presidential campaign.
Just hours before Trump officially announced his presidential bid for the 2024 election, Lake was defeated by Democratic candidate Katie Hobbs in the governor race in Arizona. Lake, who has peddled the false claim that Trump won the 2020 election in the US, appeared to suggest after her defeat that the result was incorrect and that some votes for her had not been counted in Arizona.

Following her defeat, both Trump and Lake took to their respective social media accounts to claim that the governor race in Arizona was rigged. Lake tweeted, “Arizonans know BS when they see it,” and the former president posted on Truth social, “Wow! They just took the election away from Kari Lake. It’s really bad out there!”
Lake, who was endorsed by Trump once told the BBC that the former president should not need to run again in 2024 because “he won the last election”. At the time, she had also predicted he would “come back with a vengeance”.
As soon as Trump announced his bid to run for president again, Lake posted a screenshot of his broadcasted speech, adding, “President Trump announces his ‘24 Presidential run. He has my complete and total endorsement!”

Soon after, Twitter flooded with posts speculating that Trump could pick Lake as his potential running mate in his upcoming campaign. “Trump-Lake 2024 Count on it, the loser carnival is coming to town,” one user wrote, while another said, “The MAGAts are all for a Trump/Lake 2024 run. Hilarious. Yes please pick the biggest losers in your party to run against us. We love it.”
A third stated, “Lake 2024? Didn’t she just Lose Bigly?” One more noted, “Trump/Lake 2024 I’m calling it now. With the two of them together it’s a ‘no brainer.'” Another stated, “I don’t know who printed up millions of ‘Trump-Lake 2024’ t-shirts, but they’ve got boxloads of them sitting in the warehouse now.” One more tweeted, “Hey Democrats stealing Arizona was your worst mistake. Trump Lake 2024!”
