US President Donald Trump completely denied any responsibility for the violent riots carried out by his supporters at the US Capitol last week.

Although Donald Trump urged everyone to maintain “peace and calm” while on his visit to Alamo, Texas, the essence of his statement was of denying responsibility.

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives is prepared to make Donald Trump the first-ever US President to be impeached for his actions on January 6, 2021.

On his way to Texas, Trump insisted that “everybody” thought his speech was “totally appropriate.” He dubbed his likely impeachment a “continuation of the greatest witch hunt in the history of politics.” He further warned that while “you have to always avoid violence,” as he believes his supporters are furious.

In addition to this, the outgoing President said “we believe in the rule of law” and “the nation needs its time to heal”, reported USA Today. While giving his 22-minute speech, he further added that the impeachment drive being run will come back and haunt them,

He said, “As the expression goes, be careful what you wish for” while hinting towards the US President-elect Joe Biden.

His trip to Alamo, Texas, where he touted claims of success in building the US-Mexican border wall, was his first live public appearance since last week’s chaotic events.

This is not the same Alamo as the famous fortress in another part of Texas. But Trump’s brief, low energy appearance there still marked something of a last stand.

Major representatives of the corporate and sporting world have turned their backs on Trump and the Republican party, which was in thrall to the populist leader for four years, has begun to show serious cracks. Trump, however, remains in denial.

Kevin McCarthy, a top Republican Representative, and Trump had a conversation which was filled with disagreements between the two.  McCarthy interrupted, telling him: “Stop it. It’s over. The election is over”, reported AFP.

The House will first vote on a longshot attempt to get Vice President Mike Pence and the cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment, which will declare President Trump unfit to perform his duties and put Mike Pence as acting president. To this, Trump said that he saw “zero risk” in this.

Although US Vice President Mike Pence is reportedly angered about Donald Trump’s behavior last week, the two had a meeting at the White House for the first time since the attack on the US Capitol, hinting that whatever Pence and the dwindling number of White House officials feel, they are dedicated to keep the presidency limping along to the end.
