Former US President Donald Trump had documents pertaining to security and military details of a foreign nation at his Mar-a-Lago residence, The Washington Post has reported citing sources “close to the investigation”. The FBI, on August 8 2022, had conducted a court-sanctioned raid at Trump’s aforementioned estate from where a number of classified documents were retrieved. It has now come to light that besides the United States, documents regarding nuclear secrets of a foreign government were also taken by Trump to his personal residence.

Some of the documents retrieved in the search are so sensitive that even Department of Justice and FBI officials were barred from viewing them. These documents are reportedly only accessible by the President, select Cabinet members, or to security personnel on a need-to-know basis.

Such sensitive documents are usually stored in a secured area under the watchful eyes of a control officer, unlike the way Trump had stored them at his home and did not return them to the National Archives after his tenure as president was over.

After it was revealed that the search was carried out in order to discover whether Trump had kept information regarding the US’ nuclear weapons, the former president said on his social media platform Truth Social, “Nuclear weapons issue is a Hoax, just like Russia, Russia, Russia was a Hoax, two Impeachments were a Hoax, the Mueller investigation was a Hoax, and much more. Same sleazy people involved”.

The latest revelation has surfaced a day after Trump was granted his request for a “special master” to review the retrieved documents by federal judge Aileen Cannon, whom Trump himself had appointed during his presidency.

During a campaign speech in Philadelphia last week, Trump had criticized the FBI as well as the Department of Justice for their roles in the raid, claiming that they were being controlled by “radical, leftist scroundels”.
