A man in California’s San Diego was taken into custody after he carried his toddler daughter into an elephant habitat and then dropped the child when the tusker charged at them. 

The father, identified as Jose Manuel Navarrete, illegally trespassed into an elephant’s enclosure at the San Diego Zoo on Friday afternoon to take photos with the animal. 

Suddenly, when the elephant started charging at him, the man dropped the 2-year-old child and fled. He later picked up the child and got out safely. The entire incident was caught on camera. 

The father was taken into custody on child endangerment charges. He was being held in San Diego County jail on $100,000 bail was scheduled to be arraigned on March 30.
