Herschel Walker, failed Georgia Senate candidate, solicited more than $500,000 from billionaire donor Dennis Washington for his own business, The Daily Beast reported, citing emails. The businessman, as per the report, was under the impression that he was donating to the Republican’s campaign.

Walker, as per The Daily Beast, sought thousands of dollars for his company. Washington complied with the requests, thinking his contributions were political, the report added.

The Daily Beast added that the emails have been verified by a person with knowledge of the exchange. They show that Walker asked for $535,200 to be wired directly to his undisclosed company, HR Talent, LLC.

“In the best possible circumstances, legal experts told The Daily Beast, the emails suggest exponential violations of federal fundraising rules; in the worst case, they could be an indication of more serious crimes, such as wire fraud,” Roger Sollenberger wrote for The Daily Beast.

Walker faced defeat in Georgia after launching his campaign in August 2021. As per the report, a Washington company executive was informed that the money could not be used for political purposes. The issue was raised with Herschel Walker and the candidate was asked whether the funds should be redirected to a super PAC supporting his candidacy.

Walker never contributed any of his own money to his campaign, according to Federal Election Commission filings, The Daily Beast further notes.

“It was good talking with you today. After our call, [redacted] reached out to me and said [a person] clarified with you that any funds sent to the HR Talent account cannot legally be used for political purposes. Political contributions must go to either the Team Herschel or 34N22 accounts,” Tim McHugh, executive vice president for the Washington Corporations, wrote to Walker last November, as per the report.
