A shooting in Huntington, Virginia, on Wednesday afternoon has left one man seriously hurt, local police said. The incident took place in the 2000 block, just west of Richmond Highway (Route 1) and south of the Capital Beltway in Fairfax County.

The victim was taken to a hospital with injuries considered life-threatening, police said, adding that the man was found with gunshot wounds in the roadway.

Helicopters were spotted at the scene as police searched for a suspect, who has been described as a Black man wearing a yellow hat, black shirt and gray pants.

Witnesses told FFXnow that they saw a man and woman with a baby fighting. Multiple people attempted to intervene when the fight turned ugly. The man repeatedly told people to back off. Later, a person at a bus stop on Huntington Avenue approached the couple and shots were fire. The shooter was reportedly a man accompanied by a woman.

No information on the motive of the shooting was immediately released.

The Fairfax County Police Department has advised the public to avoid the area. Huntington Avenue is closed between Richmond Highway and Blaine Drive. The closure is expected to last for “several hours,” a public information officer said.
