A video circulated online on Wednesday morning depicts a group of students at Harvard University who support Hamas allegedly harassing a group of Jewish students and shouting “Shame” at them.

According to the nonprofit organization Canary Mission, the alleged ringleader in this physical confrontation is identified as Ibrahim Bharmal. The organization claims that Ibrahim Bharmal took part in the physical and verbal assault on an Israeli student during an anti-Israel “die-in” protest at Harvard University in October 2023. The protesters encircled the Israeli student, physically grabbing and pushing him to the ground while concealing their faces with keffiyehs. Bharmal was one of the individuals identified in the video of the incident, which was originally reported by the Washington Free Beacon.

The Washington Free Beacon also confirms that Bharmal was an undergraduate student at Stanford University. In 2018, he was awarded the J.E. Wallace Sterling Award by Stanford for outstanding service to the university. Stanford characterized Bharmal’s response to the award as a reflection of his compassion and humility in serving others. Additionally, Bharmal had worked for the Council on American Islamic Relations, according to Stanford University.

Bharmal reportedly has extensive involvement in various campus groups and serves as an editor for the Harvard Law Review. As of November 2023, he was the co-president of the Harvard South Asian Law Students Association (SALSA), a student group that signed a statement by the Harvard Palestine Solidarity Committee (PSC) attributing blame to Israel for the Hamas war crimes that occurred on October 7, 2023, as noted by Canary Missions. The nonprofit clarifies that PSC is an alternative name for Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP).
