One person was killed and at least 19 others were injured in a “mass shooting” at a block party early on Sunday in Muncie, Indiana.

Around 1:14 a.m., dispatchers received a call reporting multiple shooting victims in the area of S. Hackley Street and E. Willard Street. According to the initial information, there was a “large party” there.

Police stated in a news release that there was no current threat to the neighborhood and that “multiple” individuals had been hurt, some of whom had been critically hurt.

Police officers from Eaton, a nearby town, were at the scene to provide assistance. Police Chief Jay Turner of Eaton described the incident as a “mass shooting.”

Police did not disclose the number of victims who were hurt, but Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie officials told The Associated Press that 19 people were treated for shooting-related injuries in their emergency room, and more than a dozen of them were still there as of Sunday morning.

The City of Muncie released a press release that said, “Due to the number of victims and nature of the incident, multiple agencies were contacted to assist.”

Criswell claimed that some individuals had significant injuries and were flown to other facilities by medical helicopter. According to The Star Press, the deceased man was identified as 30-year-old Joseph E. Bonner III by Delaware County Coroner Gavin Greene.
