Police officials have identified Kimbrady Carriker as the alleged shooter in the tragic mass shooting in Philadelphia.

The incident occurred at around 8:30 p.m. on the evening prior to Independence Day in the southwestern part of the city, specifically in the vicinity of 56th Street and Chester Avenue. The shooting claimed the lives of five people and injured two children.

Carriker was detained soon after the shooting spree that occurred in the city’s Kingsessing district on the eve of the Fourth of July holiday, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Kimbrady Carriker is allegedly a transgender BLM activist. He is the main suspect in the Philadelphia shooting.

Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw reported that Kimbrady Carriker, a 40-year-old alleged shooter, had been detained. Carriker was allegedly carrying an “AR-type rifle,” multiple magazines, a handgun, a police scanner, and a ballistic vest.

The tragic shooting claimed the lives of five people aged from 16 to 59. A man arrived home four hours later to discover his 31-year-old son dead from several gunshot wounds in the living room. One of the victims was him. The five men killed have been identified as Lashyd Merritt (20), Dymir Stanton (29), Ralph Moralis (59), Daujan Brown (15), and Joseph Wamah, Jr. (31).

As per media reports, families were taking part in the neighborhood celebrations when a gunman wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying a handgun and an AR-style rifle opened fire on people. 

Outlaw in a statement said, “We have no clue about the motive behind this incident. Currently, all we can ascertain is that the perpetrator left their residence with the intention of targeting individuals.”

Tina Rosette who shared a home with Carriker on Belmar Terrace in 2021 was shocked to learn that he had been named a suspect in the shooting. Cianni, the 24-year-old daughter of Rosette, admitted that she had seen Carriker’s weapon firsthand and that he had tried to acquaint her with firearms.
