US President Joe Biden on Wednesday told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he expects the Israel-Palestine to see “significant de-escalation today”, the White House said in a statement. This was Biden’s fourth call to Netanyahu ever since the crisis began.

After expressing his desire to witness a ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian militants, Joe Biden had a detailed discussion on the state of events in Gaza, the White House said. The US supremo maintained his stand and vouched for de-escalation in the region.

“President Biden spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu today. The two leaders had a detailed discussion on the state of events in Gaza, Israel’s progress in degrading the capabilities of Hamas and other terrorist elements, and ongoing diplomatic efforts by regional governments and the United States. The President conveyed to the Prime Minister that he expected a significant de-escalation today on the path to a ceasefire,” the White House statement read.

More than 212 Palestinians have been killed, including 61 children and 36 women, as the conflict enters its 10th day, according to Gaza health officials. Ten people have been killed in Israel, including two children.
