United States Vice President Kamala Harris took to Twitter on Saturday to congratulate Samia Suluhu Hassan, the first woman president of Tanzania Saturday. 

Harris further said that the US was ready to strengthen ties between the two countries.

The congratulatory tweet is monumental because Kamala Harris herself is the first woman and person of colour to serve as the Vice President of the United States.

Samia Suluhu Hassan was the VP of Tanzania since 2015. The late former president John Magufuli was a sceptic of COVID-19. Hassan urged people to avoid pointing fingers and unite. 

As per US government data, increased by 5.2% from 2018, US foreign direct investment (FDI) in Tanzania was $1.5 billion in 2019. In 2019, $462 million was the total trade between the two countries.
