Kansas City Chiefs
assistant coach Britt Reid has been suspended by the club, following an
investigation into a car crash where he was involved and which left a five-year
old girl in a comatose state. The probe into Reid’s involvement started after
he told police officers last Thursday at the scene of the incident that he had “two
or three” drinks before the crash, AFP reported the club as saying on Monday.

The coach is being
investigated for driving under influence.

Reid, son of Chiefs
head coach Andy Reid, did not travel to Tampa for the Super Bowl on Sunday,
where chances of the team’s back-to-back Super Bowl win was destroyed by the
Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as the Kansas-based side lost by a score of 31-9.

“Outside
linebackers coach Britt Reid has been placed on administrative leave following
last Thursday’s multi-vehicle accident. We remain in the process of gathering
information on the incident, and we will continue to assist local authorities
as requested,” the club was quoted by AFP as saying in a statement.

The child, Ariel
Young, suffered a brain-injury in the accident, with a second child suffering non-life-threatening
injuries.

Reportedly, her
condition was listed as ‘critical’ as she is yet to regain consciousness, having
been admitted in a Kansas City hospital.

“We have
reached out to the family to offer our support and resources to them during
this difficult time, and we will continue to pray for her recovery”, the Chiefs
said.

Reid’s truck had
hit two cars parked on the edge of a road near the Chiefs training complex in
Kansas last week, in one of which Young was a passenger.
