In another update, she said, “Had the chance to speak to residents who are being evacuated. Everyone is safe but right now these homes are too unstable to enter. I’ve already spoken with our Public Works Director Mark Pastrella and are offering the city and our residents our full support.” In a photo that she posted, the garage of one of the houses seemed to be physically leaning to one side.”

Authorities noticed a land shift around 4 p.m. Saturday. Residents who were impacted by the natural phenomenon were initially given the option to leave. However, mandatory evacuations were put in place eventually, according to the LACFD. The electricity in the area was also turned off till the situation could be brought under control.

The police will be patrolling the area all night to ensure there is no criminal activity in the evacuated houses. Utilities have been brought into the scene to make sure there were no gas or power lines disrupted. The evacuated families are being aided by the American Red Cross to shelter safely.

Initially, crews confirmed noticing cracks in the structure of one building. It was quickly determined that cracks had progressed through multiple homes and that is when specialists were called in. The twelve impacted homes have been red-tagged.

Geologists will be surveying the land to determine the cause of the landslide.

This is a developing story.
