During Harry Styles‘ Coachella Weekend 2 headline act, Lizzo joined him onstage for a classic cover (“I Will Survive”) and a One Direction favourite, 2012’s “What Makes You Beautiful.”

Lizzo grabbed the stage for the Gloria Gaynor tune, strutting alongside Styles as they belted the female empowerment hymn, decked up in multicoloured feathered boas. They then played “What Makes You Beautiful,” by One Direction, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. The song is one of the boy band’s most successful, with over 700 million listens on Spotify alone.

Lizzo hinted at her participation at the event earlier on Friday on TikTok by putting her spin on the app’s newest meme of a female slamming her hip on the edge of a bed and wailing in pain (and perfect pitch). “I’m bored otw to Coachella,” Lizzo captioned the photo, prompting fans to speculate that she will appear alongside Styles.

Lizzo’s Coachella appearance follows the release of her new single “About Damn Time” last week, as well as her appearance on “Saturday Night Live” as both host and musical guest. Styles invited Shania Twain to perform her 1999 single “Man! I Feel Like a Woman”, as well as 1997’s “You, ‘re Still the One” at Coachella last weekend. According to Variety, the turnout for Styles’ show last weekend surpassed 100,000 people.

Lizzo and Styles’ friendship dates back to December 2019, when Styles performed a version of Lizzo’s “Juice” during his BBC1 session. The two got to sing the self-love song together the following month in Miami at Lizzo’s Super Bowl performance, and Lizzo repaid Styles’ favour by performing “Adore You” during her BBC1 session. Since then, they’ve taken several photos together at award presentations — including holding hands at the 2020 Brit Awards — and have raved about their friendship in the press.
