According to police reports, a man entered the premises of Atlanta Publix Supermarket, a store located in a prominent residential area in Midtown, Atlanta, carrying heavy firearms on Wednesday. 

The man who was “openly carrying a rifle entered the bathroom” was reported to the supermarket’s management team by a witness. Law enforcement authorities were informed about the sighting, which led to prompt detention of the armed man.

A total of three handguns, two heavy firearms and body armour were siezed from the unidentified man after the detention, as reported by the Atlanta Police Department. 

The man was “immediately detained” by the initial responding units to the scene after leaving the bathroom, the police reported. 

In the initial stages of the incident, a mental health evaluation of the armed man is currently underway by health experts while being in police custody, reported CNN.

The incident record the third major gun-related incident in the United States’ recent past after 10 people were killed in Boulder, Colorado, in addition to the eight deaths at a spa in Atlanta.
