Each year, the United States commemorates Memorial Day on the last Monday of the month of May. The day, traditionally known as Decoration Day, is a federal holiday meant for mourning and revering American soldiers who died in the Civil War. 

This year, Memorial Day falls on May 30. As many people will have the day off, it could be confusing to figure out if your local bank will be open or if you’ll be able to make a quick run to the supermarket. 

Here’s all you need to know about what’s open and closed on the day. 

Banks 

According to USA Today, most of the banks, including Federal Reserve Banks, will be closed on Monday. However, banking applications and ATMs could be operable for selective services. 

Schools  

While many public and private schools will be shut on May 30, parents can specifically check the calendar of the school that their child studies in. 

Stock markets  

American financial markets like the New York Stock Exchange, as well as exchanges run by Nasdaq Inc will be closed on Memorial Day. 

Grocery stores

Grocery stores across the country will remain open on Memorial Day, however, their opening hours may differ. To check the business hours, one can call the store or search on their website. Meanwhile, Costco’s warehouses in the US will be closed.

Walgreens, CVS 

Stores like CVS and Walgreens will be open. However, it is important to check with one’s local store about the opening hours.

FedEx, USPS

The US Postal Service will not be delivering packages or mail on Memorial Day. Post offices will be closed as well. 

On the other hand, FedEx offices will operate in selective locations during modified hours. However, services like home delivery will remain shut.

All UPS store locations and services such as delivery or pickup will also be closed. 

But important services, such FedEx Custom Critical and UPS Express Critical will be in operation.
