Republican leader Mitch McConnell is healthy enough to carry on with his schedule, according to the chief medical officer of the US Congress. The 81-year-old Senate leader recently froze during a press conference when asked a question by a reporter. The incident gathered a lot of attention and made a lot of headlines.

The attending physician for the Congress, Brian Monahan, released a letter on Thursday through McConnell’s office. Monahan claimed to have spoken with McConnell and his medical staff about the situation. The physician in a letter said, “Occasional lightheadedness is not uncommon in concussion recovery and can also be expected as a result of dehydration”

McConnell experienced a similar health problem just one month ago when speaking to the media in Washington. Sen. McConnell’s age and state of health, as well as those of other Washington officials, are called into question by this occurrence.

US President Joe Biden on Thursday said that McConnell is back to his regular self and that he has no concerns about his capacity to work. Biden in a statement said, “It is not at all unusual to have a response that sometimes happens to Mitch, when you have had a severe concussion. It is part of the recovery.”

McConnell had to take a break from the Senate earlier this year after he injured himself at a gathering at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Washington. He needed hospital care for a concussion.

Recently, McConnell appeared to stop moving for more than 30 seconds as a reporter questioned him in his native Kentucky. This episode reminded me of the one that occurred on Capitol Hill last month when McConnell abruptly stopped speaking in front of reporters.

Though, both the political leaders are rivals, Biden and McConnell have been friends for many decades. This friendship goes back to when President Biden was in the US Senate.
