The suspect was taken into custody after one person was shot dead at an apartment complex in Morris, Illinois, on Thursday morning, 

Cops responded to the 500 block of Twilight Drive after receiving reports of a shooting.

A text alert sent to the community initially asked all the Morris residents to shelter in place. However, the shelter in place area soon shrunk to Ashton Road to Lisbon St. and I-80 to Brisbin Road.

“A shooting has taken place in the 500 block of Twilight Drive in Morris, ILWe are asking all residents in the area to stay inside their homes as the circumstances and suspect are unknown at this time. Please stay away from the area as this is an active scene,” the alert stated.

Grundy County Coroner John Callahan said a 25-year-old woman was rushed to Morris Hospital where she succumbed to injuries. 

Meanwhile, the suspect fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle, which was tracked through license plate reading cameras. The vehicle was later located in Joliet, city spokesman Stan Knudson said. He was then taken into custody. 

What it is is just a great response by not just our committee and the Grundy County sheriff’s department, but the surrounding communities, as well,” said Stan Knudson, with the City of Morris, told ABC 7.

No one else was injured in the shooting. 

Recalling the incident, Mike Ryerson, who lives nearby, told ABC 7, “A police officer kind of waved to us and he said, ‘Just stay there, and came down and said, We have an active shooter. Just remain inside.'”
