A Pennsylvania woman, who came face to face with a lab monkey that escaped from a truck following a crash, has reportedly fallen sick and is now on preventative medication.

The woman, identified as Michele Fallon, pulled over to help the driver of the truck after she noticed that the vehicle, which was carrying 100 macaque monkeys from Africa, had collided with a dump truck in Valley Township on Friday. The truck was headed to a lab in Missouri.

“I thought I was just doing the right thing by helping — I had no idea it would turn out this way. He just asked if his trailer was okay. He never said, ‘if you do come near a crate do not touch it,’ if he would have told me that, I would have been more careful,” she said, Fox 8 reported.

That was when the woman came face-to-face with a monkey, which hissed in her face.

“I was close to the monkeys, I touched the crates, I walked through their feces so I was very close. So I called to inquire, you know, was I safe?” said Fallon.

While 97 monkeys were contained at the crash site, three others managed to escape, following which officials warned the public to not get close to the monkeys as they could transmit disease.

“Anyone who sees or locates the monkey is asked not to approach, attempt to catch, or come in contact with the monkey. Please call 911 immediately,” tweeted Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) troopers.

Following a search, the three monkeys were caught and euthanized.

Fallon said when she decided to stop and help, the driver, who had suffered minor injuries, did not warn her about monkeys he was hauling.

“He just asked if his trailer was okay. He never said, ‘If you do come near a crate, do not touch it,’ if he would have told me that, I would have been more careful,” Fallon said.
