The Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus jab has no link to deaths reported after vaccinations and the vaccine has no new side effects, the EU’s medical regulator on Friday.

The update by the regulator comes following the reports of deaths of dozens of people in Norway and other European countries after receiving the jab of Pfizer/NioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.

After receiving the first dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine’s first jab, 33 people died in Norway, who were among around 20,000 retirement home residents to receive the shot. The deaths had led to concerns as France, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Sweden, and other nations gave similar reports.

The Amsterdam-based European Medicines Agency said it has looked at the deaths and concluded that the data from the first vaccine rollout did not show a “link to vaccination and Comirnaty (the vaccine) and the cases do not raise a safety concern.”

The data is overall “consistent with the known safety profile of the vaccine, and no new side effects were identified,” the regulator said, in its first safety update since the vaccination campaign was started in December in the EU.

The regulator said that reports of occasional severe allergic reactions did not go beyond the “known side effect.”
