US President Joe Biden, while giving updates on the progress made by his administration in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic, mistakenly referred to US Vice President Kamala Harris as “President Harris” on Thursday. 

“When President Harris and I took…” said Biden before taking a brief pause, “a virtual tour of a vaccination site in Arizona not long ago, one of the nurses on that tour injecting people, giving vax each shot, was like administering a dose of hope”, reported Fox News.

The mix-up was made in alignment with the President’s clear excitement for his administration’s landmark achievement of breaching the 100 million vaccinations mark in less than 60 days, the target which was originally set for 100 days. 

In a similar address on the COVID-19 situation in the country, before taking office as the US President, Biden called Harris “President-elect”. He said, “I took it to instill public confidence in the vaccine. President-elect Harris took hers today for the same reason.”

Harris, too, once accidentally dubbed herself commander-in-chief. “A Harris administration, together with Joe Biden as the president of the United States,” she said at a virtual roundtable in September.

According to Fox News, in a virtual conference held in September, around the time of the Presidential campaign picking up pace, former US Senator Kamala Harris was a part of a similar mix-up. She said, “A Harris administration, together with Joe Biden as the president of the United States,” which she later acknowledged with a smile. 

Such goof-ups seem to be a regular part of the lives of federal executives of the US. Former US President Donald Trump, while in conversation with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, struggled to confuse the word “Origins” with “Oranges”.
