Veteran defensive back Richard Sherman announced on Wednesday morning that he is headed to Florida where he will be signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In the past, Sherman had expressed his intentions on wanting to play with Tom Brady.

Sherman made the announcement on his podcast, The Richard Sherman Podcast.

The free-agent cornerback also spoke with the San Francisco 49ers, Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks before deciding to pick Tampa Bay.

Both Sherman and Brady share mutual admiration for each other, which is being cited as the main reason behind Sherman’s move and also that he worked out for the Bucs earlier in the week.

The Bucs had been in discussions with Sherman for several weeks and

general manager Jason Licht had also reached out to Sherman to gauge his interest.

The five-time All-Pro, five-time Pro Bowl selection and Super Bowl XLVIII champion, will continue to stay in the NFC after beginning his career with the Seahawks.

Sherman spent the past three seasons with the 49ers.

The 33-year-old is expected to provide valuable experience to one of the league’s youngest defensive backfields.

A sure tackler, Sherman will be an answer to more than just one issue for the Bucs’ defense so far this season.

He was PFF’s highest-graded cornerback in 2019 and posted an 86.5 overall PFF grade and an 88.0 coverage grade during his time with the 49ers

The Bucs will face Brady’s former team, the New England Patriots on Sunday night.
