Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II, in a recorded message posted on the internet, urged world leaders attending the COP26 summit in Glasgow to “rise above the politics” and address key climate-related challenges the world faces.

While asking for continued solutions to environmental issues, the Queen told world leaders that “time for words has now moved to the time for action.”

She said, “history has shown that when nations come together in common cause, there is always room for hope”, according to reports from BBC.

The message, which was over one minute long, was prerecorded and posted on the social media handles of The Royal Family as the crucial climate change summit is underway in Scotland. The 95-year-old monarch was earlier scheduled to be present of the diplomatic grouping, however, did not show up after being advised to rest by medical professionals.

The Queen said in the statement,”It is a source of great pride to me that the leading role my husband played in encouraging people to protect our fragile planet, lives on through the work of our eldest son Charles and his eldest son William. I could not be more proud of them”, according to reports from BBC.

She further added, “It is the hope of many that the legacy of this summit – written in history books yet to be printed – will describe you as the leaders who did not pass up the opportunity; and that you answered the call of those future generations.”

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who is attending the meeting in Glasgow, said in a statement last week the Queen was “on very good form” during their weekly conversation.

“I spoke to Her Majesty as I do every week as part of my job and she was on very good form,” Johnson told ITV News on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit — which was held before COP26– in Italy’s Rome.
