A shooter is currently active at the River Oaks Mall in Calumet City, Chicago. The shooter, along with two accomplices, went into a jewellery store inside the shopping mall and shot the establishment’s security guard multiple times. It was later reported that the victim had died due to gunshot wounds. The individuals then proceeded to loot a number of items from the shop and went away. All three were wearing masks to cover their faces.

Another individual is said to have suffered a minor hand injury as a result of broken glass.

Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet revealed the name of the deceased individual and has said that it is waiting to inform the victim’s next of kin.

The mall was put immediately under lockdown as a security measure while police are still looking for the perpetrators. The police searched the mall for the suspects, but have not been able to narrow down on anyone yet. The mall is set to remain under lockdown until the police certify that it is safe to resume business operations.

Police officials were able to arrive quickly at the scene since around 20 of them were undergoing a training exercise in a building close to the mall.

Kevin Kolosh, the Calumet City Police Chief, later informed reporters present at the scene that the incident took place at around 12:15 PM local time. After carrying out the heist, the three suspects escaped in a car, Kolosh further added.

When law enforcement officials first reached the scene, they found the injured security guard lying on the floor. The police personnel performed CPR on him till paramedics arrived and rushed him to a hospital. The injured guard’s condition is currently unavailable.
