American singer Demi Lovato on Wednesday came out as non-binary and changed pronouns to they/them. In a one-and-a-half-minute video on Twitter, the 28-year-old said that they came to the decision “after a lot of healing and self-reflective work.”

“I want to take this moment to share something very personal with you. For the past year and a half, I’ve been doing some healing and self-reflective work. And through this work, I’ve had this revelation that I identify as non-binary. With that said, I’ll officially be changing my pronouns to they/them,” Lovato said.

Lovato changed their pronoun to promote gender fluidity.” I feel this best represents the fluidity I feel in my gender expression and allows me to feel most authentic and true to the person I both know I am and am still discovering,”  the Sorry Not Sorry hitmaker continued.

“I’m still learning and coming into myself, and I don’t claim to be an expert or a spokesperson. Sharing this with you now opens another level of vulnerability for me. I’m doing this for those out there that haven’t been able to share who they truly are with their loved ones. Please keep living in your truths & know I am sending so much love your way,” they added.

Lovato had in March shared their struggles with mental health and addiction in a YouTube documentary.
