Two people died and six were injured after a stabbing attack on the
Las Vegas Strip Thursday morning. Police were called to a casino at the 3100
block of Las Vegas Boulevard at 11:41 am on reports of a stabbing with multiple
victims, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said. A suspect was taken
into custody. Police have moved multiple victims to area hospitals with “unknown
extent of injuries,” a spokesperson said.

According to the Clark County District Attorney’s Office, 32-year-old Yoni Barrios, the suspect in the case, will be making a court appearance on Friday, the Associated Press reported.

Some of those who were stabbed were showgirls, local media reported. One
woman, who claims four of the injured showgirls work for her, told the woman he
“was a chef” and wanted to take a picture with the showgirls “with his knife.”

A witness said “laying on the ground near the shops” being attended by
one of the security guards. Pierre Fandrich, another witness, told 13 Action
News, said he was walking along the strip when he thought he heard “three or
four showgirls laughing”. He later realised that they were not laughing but
screaming.

The witness added that he thought one of the women had fallen from the
bridge because there was a lot of blood on the ground. Another witness shared a
picture of a victim. Traffic along Spring Mountain at Las Vegas Boulevard was
shut down.

Police said: “At this time, at least six victims have been located. One
victim has been declared deceased. Other victims are being transported to area
hospitals with unknown extent of injuries.” Investigation is underway.

Police have recovered a kitchen knife from the scene. Cops said it was too early in the investigation to determine a motive. Three of the surviving victims are critical, Las Vegas police captain Dori Koren said.

The area where the stabbings happened comprises notable casino properties. The suspect, who is yet to be identified, was found with a significant amount of blood on his sleeves at the time of arrest. After the arrest, cops said there was no significant danger to the public.
