At least six people have been killed in a mass shooting in Tate County, Mississippi on Friday, Sheriff Brad Lance told WJTV. The suspect has been arrested on Arkabutla Dam Road.

The suspect, who is yet to be identified, went into a store at around 12:30 PM, police said. He killed a man there before shooting a woman on Bendy Road. Her husband was also injured during the incident.

The alleged gunman then traveled to a home on Arkabutla Dam Road. He shot two people. His vehicle was spotted by authorities.

Sheriff Brad Lance said that deputies were able to apprehend the suspect after a brief car chase. The car chase reportedly ended when the suspect pulled into a driveway of a home on Arkabutla Dam Road.

A spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office told DailyMail.com that the incident is ‘no longer a threat’ to the community. “We have detained a suspect in our jail. We cannot confirm anything else as it is an active investigation,” they added. The motive is unknown.

Sheriff Brad Lance told WJTV that the shooter lived on Arkabutla Dam Road near Memphis.

Another four victims were found later on Arkabutla Dam Road by deputies. Two of them were spotted outside a property with two more subsequently discovered inside the same home.

Ethan Chase, a 19-year-old resident said that he had seen the gun-toting suspect and that he came outside to check the pulse of the victim who died inside their vehicle, reported WREG-TV. “This…. doesn’t happen out here. This is supposed to be a peaceful place,” he said.

According to Lance, all of the deaths occurred within the Arkabutla Community. The town of Arkabutla has a population of less than 300 and is located about 45 miles south of Memphis, Tennessee on Arkabutla Lake. Reportedly, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is assisting local sheriffs with the investigation.
